The origins of Democrata were humble. The company was founded in 1983 in Franca, São Paulo—the location remains its headquarters—with an initial production of fewer than ten pairs of shoes. Despite these modest beginnings, Urias’s ambitions were always geared towards growth. Today, the company's two factories in Ceará produce 12,000 pairs daily, with 30% designated for export. The firm employs approximately 2,100 staff members, whom he emphasizes maintaining with increasingly specialized skills.

Throughout economic fluctuations and crises, Urias has maintained a calm and focused approach to management. Democrata has pioneered innovations such as shoes with comfortable soles and the proprietary Air technology, featuring air bubbles designed to reduce impact while walking. The brand has also revitalized traditional heavy-duty footwear like combat boots and work boots through lines such as Garage, which has been a commercial success since its launch.

As a result of these innovations and dedication to quality, Democrata’s models have become industry benchmarks. Their appeal extends beyond Brazil, attracting consumers worldwide. Continuous research into advanced technologies and current trends has enabled the company to export to over 60 countries since 2006—including nations across Latin America, North America, Europe, and the Middle East.
